Frenulum breve is a condition where the frenulum (the small band of tissue connecting the foreskin to the glans penis) is too short or tight, causing pain, restricted foreskin movement, and sometimes bleeding or tearing during erections or sexual activity. Management ranges from steroid creams and stretching exercises for mild cases to surgical options like frenuloplasty (lengthening the frenulum) or frenectomy (removing it) for more severe issues, improving comfort and sexual function.
Symptoms
Pain or discomfort during erection
Restricted foreskin retraction (difficulty pulling foreskin back)
Ventral deviation of the glans (penis bends downwards)
Bleeding or small tears in the frenulum
Anxiety about sexual activity
Causes
Congenital: Present from birth.
Infection/Inflammation: Can cause tissue changes.
Injury: Trauma that heals improperly.
Associated with Phimosis: A tight foreskin often accompanies a short frenulum.
Treatment Options
Conservative: Steroid creams, gentle stretching exercises (under medical guidance).
Surgical (for persistent issues):
Frenuloplasty: A procedure to cut and lengthen the frenulum.
Frenectomy: Surgical removal of the frenulum.
Circumcision: May be considered.
